Ebola Spreads To Senegal As They Record It's First Case

The Senegalese Health Minister, Awa Marie Coll Seck told newsmen today August 29th that the first case was a Guinean national who arrived Senegal recently. This has since been the first case of the deadly virus in the Country.

The deadly virus first broke out in Guinea in March this year.

Younger Sister Of Ebola Victim Dr. Adadevoh Reportedly Diagnosed With The Virus

According to Sahara reporters, the younger sister of Ebola victim, late Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh who died of on Tuesday August 19th has been confirmed to have the virus and is been hospitalized. Read the report below..

SaharaReporters has learned today that Amy Ngozi Adadevoh, younger sister of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, has reportedly tested positive for the Ebola virus.

Miss Adadevoh had previously been a suspected case, a suspicion confirmed today by blood test. She has been moved to isolation at the Ebola treatment center in Lagos. She joins two other patients there undergoing evaluation and treatment.

Ebola Survivor Dr Kent Speaks After Discharge From Hospital

 

There is hope and a prospective cure for Ebola as the two Americans who were infected with the deadly Ebola Virus in Liberia and returned  home for treatment have been cured and discharged from the hospital.

While speaking at a news conference in Atlanta with the staff of the Emory University Hospital, Dr. Kent Brantly said, “Today is a miraculous day. I am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family.” The other patient Nancy Writebol, has since been discharged from the hospital but chose not to make public comments.

The director of the Emory's Infectous disease unit, Dr. Bruce Ribner,said

“We are tremendously pleased with Dr. Brantly and Mrs. Writebol’s recovery.” He also said they pose no public health risk. “What we learned in caring for them will help advance the world’s understanding of how to treat Ebola infections and help, hopefully, to improve survival” in other parts of the world.

“There may be some recovery time because this is a fairly devastating disease,” but in general patients without organ damage are expected to “make a complete recovery,” he added.

American Dctor, Kent Bradly To be Released From Hospital Today; Tested Negative To Ebola After Treatment With Experimental Drug ZMapp

Dr Kent Brantly, one of the American doctors who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia while working as a missionary in the country is said to be released from Atlanta's Emory University Hospital today August 21st after being successful treated.

After undergoing screening for two days, Dr. Kent's blood samples came back negative for the virus after undergoing proper screening for two days. This report is according to the spokesperson of the hospital, Vince Dollard.  Dr. Kent is also expected to give a statement regarding his discharge later today at a news conference before leaving the hospital.

Dr. Kent along with another US missionary Nancy Writebol contracted the disease while working to fight the outbreak in Liberia, after which were taken to an isolation unit at Emory University Hospital, where they were treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp.

5 New Suspected Cases Of The Ebola Virus Recorded In Lagos State

 

Sadly the fight on deadly disease, Ebola has not come to an end in Nigeria as the Lagos State government has announced that 5 new suspected cases have been recorded at the Yaba Isolation Centre. This report is according to the state Commissioner for health, Dr Jide Idris while addressing journalists today. He said,

"Till date, we have recorded eight suspected cases, five of which came in yesterday August 19th, 12 confirmed. On the whole, five have died (including the index case). We are currently following up 213 contacts, and 62 have completed the two-day follow-up,”

Dr. Idris also used the opportunity to pay tribute to late Dr Ameyo Adadevoh and other health workers who have so far died from the Ebola virus disease, saying

 "She, (Dr. Adadevoh) it was, who took the initiative to intimate the Ministry concerning the index case – Liberian-American (Mr. Patrick Sawyer) and substantially to her credit the moderate containment achieved is owed. She led the team who attended to the index case. Her doggedness and commitment to duty saw her personally reviewing the case even though the patient had earlier been seen by a doctor. The Ministry of Health commiserates with their families, co-workers, friends and loved ones on these irreparable losses which was on the line of duty,”

Students And Doctors Protest The Mass Sack Of 16,000 Doctors

After the mass sack of 16,000 doctors by the Federal Government, medical doctors, students and consultants converged at the Lagos University Teaching hospital, (LUTH), Idi Araba, today to protest. The protest was led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Tope Ojo.

According to the doctors, their strike was never about an increment in their salary, but for better structures and equipment in hospitals across the country.
