Nelson Mandela in Critical Condition: Family to Turn Off Life Support
Father of Africa, Nelson Mandela has been reported to be in Permanent vegetative state, his family members are contemplating (whether or not) to turn off his life support machine. Madiba, 95 was rushed to the hospital after a recurring lung infection on Saturday 8th June 2013.
Court documents obtained by the AFP news agency, revealed that doctors treating the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary politician, advised his family to turn off his life support machine. The court filling dated Wednesday 26th June 2013 read “He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine.”
Aljazeera reports that Mac Maharaj, a spokesman for President Jacob Zuma of South Africa declined to comment on the documents. Citing doctor-patient confidentiality, he told AFP that “We don’t have a comment on that. We have indicated from our point of view that based on the doctors’ report, the condition of the former president is critical but stable at this stage.”
